Terms & Conditions

Clear terms for the services available now.

Version 1.0 · 25 September 2026. These terms cover the current human-led MIA services. Future hosted subscriptions, Presence and other advanced features require separate terms before launch.

1. Who we are

MIA Memories is operated by ORVIA Oversight Ltd, company number 16123685. Registered office: 3rd Floor, 86–90 Paul Street, London EC2A 4NE. Contact: hello@orvia.org.uk or 0330 043 3703.

2. The services covered

These terms apply to the MIA Story Session, entry Archive Rescue and entry Life Story services purchased through the MIA website, plus any separately agreed extension to those services. The service description and price shown immediately before payment form part of the contract.

3. What is not being sold

The current purchase is not a promise of permanent or lifetime cloud storage, a hosted multi-user family account, synthetic Presence, DNA analysis, genealogy research or a future-release service unless that feature is specifically described as included in your order.

4. Prices and extra work

The price shown at checkout covers the stated launch scope. Archive Rescue and Life Story may need extra work depending on the amount of material and requested outputs. We will tell you the additional scope and price before carrying out chargeable extra work.

5. Payment and contract confirmation

Payment is processed by Stripe. After purchase, we will provide or send confirmation of the service and the applicable contract information in a form you can keep. Keep your Stripe receipt and any MIA confirmation email.

6. Cancellation

Consumers who buy a service online will normally have a 14-day cancellation period beginning after the contract is made, subject to applicable law and exceptions. See our Cancellation Information for how to cancel and the model cancellation wording.

7. Starting within the cancellation period

We will not rely on your payment alone as a request to start work during the cancellation period. If you expressly ask us to start early, you may have to pay a proportionate amount for service supplied before cancellation. If a service is fully performed after your express request and acknowledgement, the cancellation right may end once the service has been fully performed.

8. Your material and permissions

You keep ownership of material you provide, subject to the rights of other people. You give ORVIA only the permission reasonably required to receive, copy, organise, transcribe, edit and return the material for the agreed service. You must not knowingly provide material you have no right to share.

9. Family and third-party content

Family archives can contain information about other people. We may pause, restrict or remove material where there is a credible privacy, safeguarding, ownership or legal concern. One family member purchasing a service does not automatically give them authority to override another person's rights or a court or professional restriction.

10. Recording

We explain recording before a session begins. A purchase does not itself amount to consent to record every participant. Where more than one person takes part, appropriate consent or another lawful basis must be established before recording.

11. AI-assisted processing

AI-assisted transcription or organisation is optional where offered and remains subject to human review. MIA does not authorise an AI system to invent memories, fill gaps as fact or replace original source material. Publicity, synthetic voice/avatar use and future Presence preparation are separate choices.

12. Review and corrections

Edited transcripts and organised outputs may contain transcription or interpretation errors. Where review is included, you should tell us about corrections within the agreed review period. Originals remain distinct from edited or derived versions.

13. Delivery

Delivery timing depends on the purchased service, availability, the amount and condition of material and how quickly required information is supplied. We will agree or confirm the expected delivery approach with you.

14. Safety and prohibited use

MIA must not be used to circumvent court orders, prohibited contact, safeguarding controls, access restrictions or another person's lawful privacy rights. We may refuse or stop work where continuing would create a serious legal, safeguarding or rights risk.

15. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded. MIA is a memory and archive service; it is not legal, clinical, financial or emergency advice. We do not guarantee that customer-supplied material is complete, accurate or free from third-party claims.

16. Complaints

Please see our Complaints page or contact hello@orvia.org.uk. Raising a complaint does not affect statutory consumer rights.

17. Law

These terms are governed by the law applicable to the contract and do not remove any mandatory consumer rights you have under applicable UK law.
